How to Apply for CVS or HVS

Applying for historic or conditional vehicle registration

To conditionally register a vehicle you must attend a service centre in person and provide:

• completed Application for Conditional Registration
• Proof of your identity
• Proof of registration entitlement – such as an original receipt for the vehicle showing buyer’s name, seller’s name, address, signature, the vehicle identification number (VIN) or chassis/frame or serial number and the date of acquisition)
• your payment
• a document proving the vehicle is suitable for safe use:
• For most vehicles – a Vehicle Suitable for Safe Use Declaration is acceptable
• For street rods – a Street Rod Declaration and a safety check inspection report issued by the NSW Street Rod Committee or its inspection agents
• For rally vehicles – a Rally Vehicle Declaration
• For historic vehicles – a Historic Vehicle Declaration. If the club is less than 2 years old you should also provide a safety check inspection, not more than 6 months old.
• For classic vehicles – a Classic Vehicle Declaration and an Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection, not more than 42 days old and:
• if it is modified, a compliance certificate
• if it has been imported, a Vehicle Import Approval.

All declarations must not be more than 42 days old.

Transferring registration

You can't transfer historic or classic vehicle registration. You need to cancel your registration before a new operator can register the vehicle in their name.
